The NEHYL came up trumps again yesterday and set the scene very well for a day to remember for both teams that made the Final. All the Fleet Town Colts Panthers’ boys were ready and up for the occasion from the minute they arrived at the ground. The talk in the changing room before the game was about giving 100% effort from the first second and not giving the opposition the chance to affect the positive memories that the boys wanted to create. As with most finals the first half was very tight. Although we dominated the half, their physicality was impressive. It was keeping us out and preventing us from turning our pressure in to goals. At half time the boys were told that they had done everything right bar score and that on a very large pitch our athleticism would eventually tell over their size. Sure enough we started the half well and soon our pressure caused a crack in their defence. Our pace up front was enough to nip it round the keeper and in to the goal. Some excellent football from the Panthers caused more difficulties for the opposition and their challenges were becoming more desperate as they tried to keep in the game. A foul at around 25 yards brought the second, a wonderful strike from the resultant free kick. Our final goal, also started from a set piece, saw our on rushing player at the back post smash it in to the net with aplomb! A wonderful day and happy memories for all the Fleet Town Colts Panthers’ Players, Coaches, Parents and Supporters.
