Looking for their first win of the season, Fleet started well and had most of the early chances but failed to hit the target on numerous occasions. From a rare Windlesham attack, they won a corner.
Two defenders missed the chance to head clear and it fell to the foot of a Windlesham striker to thump home and Fleet found themselves 1-0 down. Fleet looked unruffled and took the game back to Windlesham, but a long drop kick found the defence rooted to the floor and Fleet went 2-0 down as the striker nipped in to lob Alex in goal. Fleet continued to have chances but barely put a shot on target. It was going to be a game lost due to mounting individual errors as a mix up between Ralph and Alex allowed Windlesham a tap in to make it 3-0. As half time approached and with a mountain to climb, Fleet applied even more pressure and eventually opened their account. A superb cross field pass from Ben R found Lewis on the edge of the box, he held up the play well to find Ben N who neatly tapped in for 3-1.
Half Time 3 v 1
Fleet restarted the game in the same fashion and looked for their second, but a quick counter attack sent Fleet 4-1 down. Despite the scoreline, Fleet huffed and puffed but never attacked in numbers. Fleet looked heavier in numbers at the back than they did going forward. Dan H and Lewis combined well and Lewis’s shot smacked the bar but bounced out the wrong side.
This seemed to ignite the lads and soon it was 4-2. The Windlesham keeper spilled the ball and Lewis followed in to score. Then suddenly it was 4-3 as Dan H broke down the right and into the box, his shot creeping underneath the keeper and the comeback looked possible. But again, Fleet snatched defeat from the arms of glory as a mix up of headers in defence gave Windlesham the chance to seal the game with another lob over Alex.
