Under 16s Colts reach 1/4 finals of Hampshire County Cup

Sunday 14 December 2014 – What a good performance from the boys today, following a long trip to Poole the Colts returned triumphant with a 4 – 3 win. Thanks also to the parents who braved the long journey and cheered on the boys, which was much appreciated. An even first between the teams saw Poole go in 2-1 up at half time with well taken goals after Michael Colfer scored Fleet’s first goal.

However during the second half, our boys settled, put the work rate in and started to dominate the play. There was an outstanding performance from Lewis in goal, who saved a first half penalty and made numerous other saves to keep us in the match.  Fleet’s defence was kept busy throughout but stood firm and worked their socks off. The midfield stayed resilient and pushed forward in the second half which kept the pressure on the opposition. Poole dropped back and played more defensively. The forwards continued to probe Poole’s defence and were rewarded with a goal from Sam Warner, 2-2. James Vass followed this up with a superb free kick outside the box curling into the top left hand corner.

Poole came back at us equalising but Fleet took control and always looked more likely to score the winner. Midfield stayed strong with a cheeky back heel from Mikey to set Sam up to score his second of the match and the winner.  A great day out for the Colts!
