Ten goals, a last minute penalty and a stirring fight back were all part of a great morning’s football. Much like our last game against AFCB we were feeling charitable at the beginning and decided to give the opposition a 2 goal head start. We weren’t playing badly, but we just didn’t react quickly enough to dangerous situations in and around our box.
We pulled a goal back through Harvey after a good move, but then conceded a further 2 before before Ollie smashed one home.
We spoke at half-time about starting strongly and putting AFCB under pressure early on. We started well but were hit on the break and found ourselves with a seemingly impossible mountain to climb.
But climb it they did! We started to move the ball forward quickly and began bearing down on the AFCB goal on a more regular basis. Eventually Ollie stabbed home after a smart turn in the box and then Fin, for the third week running, struck a firm shot into the corner to get us within touching distance. We continued to create chances but couldn’t quite find the net and as the time ticked away it looked like we might come up short. However the boys never gave up and were awarded a penalty for handball in the box. Ollie stepped up and fired home with 60 seconds remaining. The whistle blew and we finished with what felt like a victory!
A great game to watch and one which showed the boys never say die attitude – breathless stuff!
Man of the Match – Oscar – ran his socks off all game playing in a couple of different positions
Effort Award – Will – Some great saves kept us in the game
A big thank you also goes out the parents who were all very vocal and gave the boys lots of encouragement when they needed it. I thought Trish, Ira and Mel were going to start singing at one point!
