Harriers Denied at the Death

Fleet Town Harriers 1
Abbey Rangers 2

Searching for their first win since being moved up earlier in the season to SPL Division 1, the Harriers came off second best in this tightly fought contest at home to Abbey Rangers. There was a change in tactics with James moving to the centre of defence,  Mattie and Harry taking on central midfield positions and Max the role of striker. The match also saw a debut for new recruit Ollie. James showed he was more than up to the task with a gritty display at the back where he won pretty much everything in the air.

With the Harriers having been on top for the majority of the first half Abbey Rangers then took the lead against the run of play and found themselves going into the break a goal to the good. A strong half time team talk and the Harriers were once again raring to go. Continual pressure saw the Harriers rewarded when Bryn was up-ended in the box which left Dan to coolly slot home the resulting spot-kick to the left of the keeper.

Some great football and a fantastic team effort were sadly to no avail when, with just a minute to go, a Harriers attack was cleared up-field only for Abbey Rangers to score and steel victory.
