Fleet Town 2 v 5 Burpham

Looking for their first win of the season, Fleet took early control of this game and dominated from the start. Alex and his back four were barely troubled and the midfield and forwards enjoyed plenty of possession. Then from nowhere, Fleet found themselves 0-2 down in as many minutes. Both goals were gifted to Burpham on a plate. Fleet picked themselves up and went back on the offensive, but frustrated by a confident and capable Burpham keeper. But then Fleet offered Burpham dessert in the shape of goal three, a massive defensive blunder allowed the striker in to score with ease. With possession and attempts at goal weighing heavily in Fleet’s favour, it looked like Fleet were going to enter the interval bizarrely 0-3 down. With seconds remaining, Daniel E’s corner was emphatically headed home at the back post by Ben R for Fleet’s long awaited opener.

Half Time 1 – 3

From the restart, the comeback looked inevitable but the ball just would not go in the net. Alex, with a long punt out from goal found Dan H who cut the ball inside for a glaring chance at the foot of Lewis to agonisingly shoot just wide. Dan H again put in a superb cross and with an elongated outstretched leg, Lewis smashed the ball against the bar. Fleet continued to pepper the Burpham goal but were denied countless times by resolute defending from Burpham. Eventually Fleet closed the gap as Ralph released Chris down the left, he cruised into the box to beat the keeper at the near post for 2-3. But Fleet hadn’t learnt from the early warnings, another defensive blunder was seized upon by the talented quick striker to make it 2-4. With minutes to go, Fleet had resigned themselves to defeat as a Burpham corner went unchallenged and Burpham sneaked a fifth.
