Fleet U16s came out overall worthy winners, showing great resilience in a typical and hard fought semi final, coming out deserved 2-1 winners in extra time. The first half started well with an early goal headed in by Sam Warner from a beautifully positioned cross from Ryan Mulcahy. Claygate’s game play was pumping high balls up front for their forwards to run on to score. A free kick inside the half way line for Claygate, high into the box, resulted in an equaliser in the first half.

During the second half, Fleet kept attacking, playing possession football, finding it difficult to play their normal passing game out to the flanks on a small pitch. An outstanding performance from their goalkeeper, tipping two shots over the bar and an excellent clearance off the goal line by one of their defenders, kept Claygate in the game.

Extra time followed, with Fleet taking the iniative and control, which resulted in a well taken goal by Michael Colfer, shooting across the face of the gaol into the bottom left hand corner. Throughout the match, Fleet’s defence worked tirelessly to keep out the constant high balls from the opposition. Midfield worked hard to support the defence and strikers.

Well done to all the lads for reaching the final of the SPL Senior Cup and winning the league convincingly – which is well deserved for their performance throughout the season.

The final will be played at Godalming FC on 19th April.
