A Brief History
Fleet Town Colts was founded in May 1992, by Mr Derrill Carr, who took twelve boys for football training at Calthorpe Park. This number grew to in excess of 20 boys, all under eight at the time and fees were taken, so they could enjoy these coaching sessions and from the fees, training balls and bibs were purchased.
In June of 1992, the club as it stands today was formed and the parent opened a refreshment stall every Sunday morning training session, to raise club funds. The number of children had grown to 30!
In July 1992, sponsorship was gained to supply two complete football strips and over forty boys were now attending training. Other sponsorship followed and in August 1993, the club registered three teams with the 3 Counties Alliance League of Hampshire, Berkshire & Surrey.
The club applied to the local authority for the provision of two children’s pitches at Calthorpe Park to which they readily agreed. By September 1993, the number of playing members had risen to fifty. A grant application was made to Hart District Council and £600 was secured which was put towards purchasing more strips and tracksuit tops.
In December 1993, the first Christmas party was held for all the children and in May 1993, the club held a “Fun Day” at the Fleet Town Football Club ground. 150 people attended, including dignitaries from Hart District Council and this Fun Day has remained a firm fixture in the Club’s calendar ever since.
FA Charter Standard Award
In 2003 the Club achieved the FA Charter Standard Award, a best practice guide that sets standards of coaching, administration and child protection for clubs working with young people. As a benchmark for quality, it will improve the playing experience for all.
The club has gone from strength to strength where it is today the largest football club in the Surrey, Hampshire, and Berkshire area. We have some 400 members with representative teams in every age group from Under 7 through to Under 16. There is a vibrant ‘Saturday Morning Club’ for the Under 5 and 6’s with day membership peaking at 95 players. We train and play matches at Calthorpe Park (6 pitches), and Crookham Junior School, All Saints School and Elvetham Heath, competing in the Surrey Primary League and the North East Hants Youth League.
