Some parents of our Colts U15s team recently made a visit to the Kaira Konko charity in The Gambia for the third year in a row. It’s a Scout Lodge that was built in association with the Hampshire Venture Scouts, but now also has links with local schools as well.
Money is raised throughout the year to buy activities to do with the scouts when we visit as a way of enriching their lives. Some of the money we raise is kept aside to keep projects that were started two years ago, running. Those that benefit are a drumming and drama club and a sewing and tie die club. Clothes, shoes and reading glasses are also taken which are then distributed to those in most need, plus pens and pencils which helps enable the younger children to attend school.
The Fleet Town Colts strip that was donated this year will be used by the Kaira Konko Football team. It’s their first proper kit! Details of the charity are on the website: www.kairakonko.com
