Fleet Town Colts U16s Complete the Double!

The U16s Colts team did the double on Sunday 19th April, by winning the SPL Senior Cup, having already won the Premier League earlier in the month. The lads have done the club proud with their achievements this season. The match on Sunday being the icing on the cake. Fleet faced Mayford Athletic in the final at Godalming FC. Mayford proved to be worthy opposition, taking an early lead with a penalty in the first ten minutes! The early shock galvanised the Fleet lads into their controlled and passing style of play. Excellent linking play as a team, gave Michael Colfer the opportunity to score a well taken equaliser just inside the 18yd box which whistled past the goalkeeper into the top right hand corner of the net. With confidence building all the time, Fleet dominated the first half, Michael Colfer scoring a second from a corner. Fleet kept up the constant pressure, resulting in another corner. James Vass volleyed on the edge of the box into the back of the goal to make it 3 – 1 at half time.

Further chances went begging in the second half with Mayford battling hard to get a foothold in the game. However, Fleet held firm continuing to play possession football and ran out worthy winners.

Congratulations to Josh Hitchin from the Colts who won the man of the match award, nominated by the SPL officials present.

A fantastic day out for the Colts, well supported by their families and friends throughout. A huge thank you from the manager and coaches for the enthusiasm and commitment shown this season.
